Corneal Topography (Corneal Mapping) — Hastinapuram
Sri Vision Eye Hospital & Laser Center — Nagarjuna Colony, Phase-4, Hastinapuram
Corneal Topography is a non-invasive imaging test that maps the curvature and surface shape of the cornea (front window of the eye). It produces a detailed heat-map (keratometric map) used to detect early keratoconus, measure irregular astigmatism, plan refractive surgery (LASIK / PRK), and optimize contact lens fitting.
🔍 What the Test Shows
- Corneal curvature and elevation maps (steep/flat areas)
- Detection and staging of keratoconus & ectatic changes
- Irregular astigmatism and corneal scars
- Pre-operative planning data for LASIK/PRK and corneal procedures
- Contact lens fitting guidance (RGP / scleral lens fitting)
👥 Who Should Get Corneal Topography?
- Patients with progressive or irregular astigmatism
- Suspected or family history of keratoconus
- Anyone considering laser vision correction (LASIK/PRK)
- Contact lens users with poor fit or discomfort
- Patients with unexplained vision loss despite normal refraction
🩺 Procedure & Preparation
- No drops are usually required (some clinics may dilate pupils if combined tests are done).
- Remove contact lenses at least 24–48 hours before the test (RGP lenses may need longer removal time as advised).
- Avoid eye makeup on the day of the test.
- Bring previous eye reports or topography prints if available for comparison.
🎯 Why Corneal Topography Matters
Early detection of corneal diseases like keratoconus enables timely interventions (cross-linking, specialty lenses) that can preserve vision. Accurate corneal maps improve surgical outcomes for refractive procedures and help select the best contact lens design for comfort and vision.
